Top 5 Singaporean & Malaysian Youtubers

1. Night Owl Cinematics

Topping the list of my favorite youtubers would definitely be Night Owl Cinematics. They are led by Ryan & Sylvia, possibly the funniest couple out there in the youtube community. They never fail to make me laugh with their Singaporean sense of humor. Of course not forgetting the awesome actors that have a huge part to play in all their videos. One particular thing that sets them a mark above the rest is really the professional screenplay and editing skills that they have which makes the videos look really well done.

2. Tree Potatoes

Next up in the list would be Tree Potatoes. They were originally from Wah Banana but somehow formed their own tribe and youtube channel. Nonetheless, they have managed to carve a name for themselves and also many loyal fans within a short period of time. They make videos similar to Night Owl Cinematics but yet at the same time unique in their own way.

3. Joseph Germani

Joseph Germani is arguably one of the best Malaysian youtubers around. I first noticed him acting as Ah Wing, Malaysia's number 1 salesman. That left me with such a lasting impression that I immediately subscribed to his channel and I never looked back. He's really talented and other than making the "Shit People Say" series just like most other youtubers, he has his own music as well. I was so addicted to his song "Monchichi" that I played the song nonstop for quite a while. 

4. Dan Khoo Productions

Dan Khoo is another producer that you should have noticed by now if you're an avid youtuber. I've got to admit he has the most creative ways of making videos. I'm particularly in love with his love series that really evoked tears. He also has a knack for linking his videos in a very special way that I've yet to see another youtuber do. Check out his videos "Save The Girls!" and "Blind Date" and you'll know what I mean. 

5. Cheokboard Studios

Cheokboardstudios is created by Jonathan Cheok. I've only started watching his videos about 2 months back and he has quickly climbed up my list of favorites. A natural born actor, he flairs his bad boy roles really well. Besides that, I really liked how he disappears and reappears in video with a BAM. 

There you go, my top 5 favorite Singaporean and Malaysian Youtubers. Of course there are several other interesting channels that deserve a mention such as WahBanana, JinnyboyTV, TheMingThing and Trevmonki

NDP 2013

Hello guys, it's National Day real soon and lucky me got to watch the preview first hand. This year's NDP has a pretty interesting theme - "Many Stories, One Singapore'. I've missed out on the previous few National Day Parades being a proud Singaporean I've got to say this year's parade is awesome.

What's really different about this year's NDP is the youthfulness portrayed throughout the entire show. There are just so many kids running around and participating in the various segments. I really liked the part where the mini versions of the hosts came out and took over the show. (Sorry for being such a spoiler) I was wondering why the ushers and motivators were all dressed in bee costumes until they announced halfway through the show that it's all part of being young and stuff. 

Of course the parade can't be complete without the traditional free fall performance by the red lions. Guess what? Singapore made history by having their first female jumper perform in this year's National Day Parade. I just love how the jumpers land off with swag on the floating platform. 

The aerial display was pretty good as well but I guess it all happened too fast. The show would be so much better if they did fly around the floating platform a few more times.

Not forgetting the parade contingents and march pass as well. What's really funny was that the people tasked to act as the President and prime ministers for this rehearsal were really engrossed in their roles. I would totally volunteer all my Saturdays to be the stand-in President and swag in after being driven in a Mercedes right to the front of the stage.

A couple more performances before they ended the entire show. This year's National Day Parade theme song didn't really appeal to me. In fact it didn't even sound like a legit theme song. I remember the days when "Home" and "Where I Belong" were just rocking the stages. Those were the classic theme songs that I'll never forget. Let's hope next year's theme song would be better.

Last but not least, the moment everyone's waiting for - FIREWORKS! P.S The pictures do not do justice to the actual fireworks. Just in case you're wondering about the fun pack, the design of it sucks so badly I didn't want to take a photo of it. The contents not bad actually, with the light sabre thing that you use to wave along to the songs and a stack of discount coupons and some snacks.

Meaningful Saturday evening spent reminiscing all of Singapore's memories. Just in case you people don't know, Singapore's going to be 48 years old this year!

Staycation at Venue Hotel

Hello guys, I just had my staycation at Venue Hotel and it was the best staycation I've had. I wouldn't have expected such great satisfaction from a boutique hotel like this. I generally do not have great impressions about hotels that were built as shophouses initially but this one changed me totally. 

I took the premiere room which was really unique cause they have a bathtub right smack in front of your bed. Being a great fan of bathtubs I wouldn't let this chance slip out of my hands right? Where else can you find a hotel room in Singapore with a bathtub for only $150? Oh right, a night's stay in their premiere room only cost $150. Probably the most well spent $150 for a hotel room ever.

The first thing that impressed me was the lobby. Just look at the exquisite design of their lobby, looks nothing like a budget hotel at all. I didn't really believe the pictures I saw from their official website and agoda.com but the entire design just overwhelms me. To top it off, the front desk staff were really nice and always had a smile on their faces.

Here's a picture of the awesome bathtub I mentioned! I guess this hotel is meant for couples and not friends because there's isn't much privacy especially when you have to bathe in the bathtub right in front of the bed. But fret not, there's also a standing shower in the toilet.

One thing that puzzled me was the translucent sticker on the toilet's glass doors. It was in such a weird shape and it doesn't provide any privacy at all. I'd rather they put it completely or remove it. I was shitting on the toilet and I realised that you can actually look through the door pretty easily cause it isn't completely covered. I would rather they remove the sticker and let me watch tv while I shit.

Toilet amenities are pretty decent and I was actually scared they didn't provide toothbrushes. I'm glad they did and I love their design so much. In fact I like anything that's black and white and simple. 

Not only is the hotel room awesome, the location is awesome as well. It's situated in Joo Chiat Road, somewhere I've never actually been to in my life. Had a great time exploring the neighborhood and uncovering the secret food places. Highly recommended for a staycation right in the heart of Singapore for poor chaps like me who can't afford to go overseas! 

Did I mention that Old Airport Road is just a few stops away? We stopped over for some brunch as well and the Lor Mee was just plain awesomeness. 

Can't wait for our next overseas trip together with my beloved Petrine! ♥

Ikea meatball craze

So as you guys know, IKEA SG finally got the approving stamp proving that they do not have horse meat in their meatballs. To celebrate that, IKEA decided to sell their meatballs at 10c each for only a day. I must say this is a perfect marketing plan, because the queue at IKEA that day was plain crazy.

Just look at the queue, all the way from the bistro to the bridge. This is at IKEA Alexandra by the way. Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind the queue for the 10c meatballs. So after getting my 50 meatballs and finally getting a seat, I observed several types of people who went to IKEA for the meatball craze. 

1) Kiasu Ones

If you look properly at the girl with the pink bag, she was dabao-ing all the meatballs home. There were so many posters clearing dictating that the meatballs were for dine-in only. This girl truly showed the Singaporean spirit. She had like bags of containers prepared beforehand just to da bao all the meatballs home. I was watching her the whole time and there were more than 10 boxes. The worst thing is after she went away, a few more groups of people stood there to dabao their meatballs as well. So it somehow became a dabao counter. Why so kiasu?

2) Weird Ones

As it's 10c meatball day, I would expect most people who come to IKEA to get meatballs, even if it's not the meatball day, most people would come to IKEA for meatballs as well. I came across these few groups of people who bought everything else except meatballs. Literally everything else, their entire trolley was filled with random stuff except meatballs. Why so weird?

And of course there are the boliao people like me who have nothing better to do while eating meatballs and snapping photos of all the kiasu people. For those of you who missed out on the IKEA meatball day, too bad. The meatballs were pretty awesome even though they weren't as awesome as before. Honestly speaking, at 10c per meatball, even if they were made of horse meat I also eat lor. Quite nice what.

Taxi Taxi

Caught this movie last night and it was $8 well spent. You know recently I've been trying to save up cause I only get a miserable $450+ allowance from NS. So I haven't really watch a movie for a long time, I think the last one was Ah Boys To Men. (okay that wasn't too long back). I really like local productions and I wouldn't miss any one if possible. 

This show really caught my attention especially when Dr Jia Jia is one of the actors. I've been following him for quite a while and he's incredibly talented and now that he's recognized locally, I feel really proud of him. Anyone else thinks he's incredibly talented please Kee Chiew as well!

Okay, back to this show. I totally changed my perspective of taxi drivers after watching this show. I still have this secret little hatred deep down in my heart against them cause some of them drive really dangerously and I've had a really close shave with one. Almost caused me my life back then. 

Many people in Singapore don't want to be classified as low class citizens and hold jobs like hawkers, taxi drivers, cleaners etc. Without these people, Singapore wouldn't survive at all. Many of the taxi drivers actually earn more than what diploma holders are earning even without a diploma. 

After this show, I have my new found respect for taxi drivers, especially new taxi drivers. I'm sure most of us here wouldn't want to be a taxi driver for life unless you really love driving that much. The least we can do for them is to give them the basic respect they deserve. Don't criticize them when you think they took a longer route just to earn your money. Don't litter in the taxis. Don't stress the taxi drivers because you are late.

I'm guilty of all those pointers above. But from today onwards, I'm going to have a new found tolerance for taxi drivers. Lets all appreciate the hard work that taxi drivers have put in to contribute to the Singapore's transport system. (Afterall, they are the ones who you turn to if the MRT breaks down again)
