Korea Trip Oct 2014 Part 1 (Vietnam Airlines)

After being on a hiatus for about 2 months, I thought I should blog about my Korea trip and here we are!

So Petrine and I booked Vietnam Airlines for our trip to Korea because it was the cheapest flight option available. It's even cheaper than supposedly budget airlines like AirAsia. It was a total of about SGD$500 per person for return trip but the downside is you'll have to transit once in Vietnam.

They had really huge legroom compared to the budget airlines and comfy seats as well!

The first thing you'll get from the friendly air stewardess is a refreshing wet towel and also the pillow and blanket that came in really handy cause we had a pretty long flight to Hanoi.

The first airplane we took to Hanoi had no personal TV but who watches them anyway. I was quite surprised that their flight safety instructions were given through a video on the TV which was quite a change because the other budget planes I took were all demonstrated in person by the air stewardesses.

The best thing about a full fledged airline is probably their food. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this entire meal being served to me and trust me, it's extremely delicious that I would have asked for seconds if I could. On our airplane itinerary that was sent to us by Vietnam Airlines, it was written as we would have refreshments for SG > Hanoi and from Hanoi to Incheon we would have dinner but we got a whole other meal for dinner as well.

Here's the Hanoi transit lounge and we were so glad there was wifi because we are so tech dependent and being stuck in Hanoi for a 6 hrs transit isn't really pleasant if you don't have wifi. The transit area is really small with 2 levels and most of the shops are selling traditional Vietnamese clothes and snacks. Not exactly very interesting.

Being the self acclaimed foodie, I decided to try some of their local food. I believe the airport food is highly inflated because this set above cost like USD$10? I don't usually like Vietnam food especially after trying Nam Nam Noodle Bar but this particular dish was so good. Notice the fried spring roll at the side? It was so good I ordered 3 more.

Yes it's really that good. Never liked spring rolls so much until I ate this.

The flight from Hanoi to Incheon was pretty much the same but in a bigger aircraft and they came with personal TVs! But I didn't use them at all because I was so soundly asleep and only woke up for their "dinner" which was actually supper.

Yet another round of sumptuous airplane food before I fell asleep on our overnight flight to Korea.

We woke up just in time to catch the sunrise and the paddle pop sky.

The experience with Vietnam Airlines was really good and it was a refreshing change from the budget airlines where you have to pay for every single thing including a bottle of water. The flights were also less bumpy and with the comfortable seats, you can be guaranteed a smooth and enjoyable ride to your destination. I would definitely go for Vietnam Airlines again for my future trips.
