Korea Trip Oct 2014 Part 8 (Gangnam Underground Shopping Centre & Garogusil)

My accommodation was really near Cheongyecheon stream but I didn't manage to go down and talk a walk. It's probably one of the nicest streams I've ever seen especially at night when it's lighted up with all the different colors.

Grabbed a snack for breakfast before heading to Gangnam. I believe this is called the Mung Bean Pancake or Bindaetteok. The pancake is really chewy and tasty with all the fillings inside but I've no idea what those fillings are. The deep frying exudes this fragrance that totally attracted us there even though it was quite expensive at 3000 won each.

Lunch was at a Kulguksu place near Dongmyo station. We had no idea how to order any food when we stepped in because everything was written in Hangul. Fortunately they had mandarin-speaking people there that could help us take our orders. This is the place that made me like super plain stuff like just noodles and soup because the broth is really flavorful. Even the dumplings that were mainly made from vegetables were delicious. I was initially really skeptical of the dumplings because 90% of it was vegetables and being such a meat person, I almost condemned it until I tried it.

We made our way to Gangnam Terminal Underground Shopping Center which is one of the largest clothing malls you can find in Seoul.

Directions - Take the metro to Express Bus Terminal and head towards exit 8. You'll find a staircase leading down where you'll see entrance 7-2 of the shopping centre. It's also called Go-To Mall.

The entire place was huge but if you're mainly looking for clothing start with the west zone. Actually almost the entire mall sells clothes, largely female clothing with only about 1/5 of the shops in the east zone selling ornaments and gardening materials.

Most of the clothes are priced around 15000 won but you'll be able to see several 10000 won deals or even lesser at certain shops. Other than Sinchon, this is the place to go to if you're looking to get trendy clothes. Unfortunately for us, the current fashion trend was autumn clothing so we didn't manage to get much clothes because they sold mostly sweaters and windbreakers.

Spent the bulk of our day covering the entire Go-To Mall before heading to the atas Garogusil located at Sinsa station. It's basically a designer street with lots of local labels and designer brands but of course with the chic cafes as well.

Here's me trying to get a candid shot but apparently I'm the worst model anyone can have.

Plastic surgery is really so prominent in the Korean culture that they even have an entire building dedicated to plastic surgery. In fact we saw several of these similar "hospitals" in Seoul.

This is perhaps one of the more interesting things I've seen. Can you imagine sitting in the dentist's in front of a full glass window where people from the streets can watch you get your filling done? That is exactly what we saw as we looked up to the 2nd floor. The dentist was working on this lady and we were so amused that we stood there for quite a while. Pretty interesting culture uh? I'll be so awkward if I was placed in a dental seat facing the streets.
