Korea Trip Oct 2014 Part 10 (Hongdae & Namdemum Market)

Remember how I said my AirBnB house was in the middle of both Sindang Station and Dongmyo Station? I've always traveled by Dongmyo so today Petrine and I decided to try Sindang since we were going to Hongdae and it would be a direct train if we went by Sindang.

Turns out it was an interesting experience as we walked through this underground art gallery which was a little too artsy fartsy for me.

We ended up at the end of Sindang market and we realised how convenient it was to go by Sindang station instead because there were a lot of stuff to see and eat. This is how a traditional neighbourhood market looks like in Korea and it's not too much different from ours except we have hawker centres and their streetside stalls are their version of hawker centres.

Right beside the Sindang roads at night are these lit orange tents where you can eat gopchang (intestines) marinated in special red sauce. True definition of street food but we didn't dare to try due to hygiene issues.

Hongdae is another place you'd want to visit if you want to shop for trendy clothes. Prices are generally cheap as they cater to the university crowd and you can find things from 10000 won onwards.

This is the highlight of our trip to Hongdae. It's a waffle + ice cream + whipped cream combination that is so awesome. Not only do they have sweet versions, they also have a savory version that is somewhat like a pizza but with a waffle base.

Daebak! One of the more interesting street food I've eaten in Korea that is not overpriced.

Had a mini photoshoot by ourselves over at the Hongdae park where there were lots of graffiti. I still can't get over the awesomeness of Samsung cameras with the viewfinder option on our phone so we can see how we look like. Totally helped us in taking these awesome photos.

The Hongdae park also comes to life at weekend nights where young talents from all over Korea will come and perform their craft. There was this one particular band that amazed us with their energy level and ability to get the crowd going with them. I even danced along even though I've no idea what they are singing because the atmosphere was just super high.

Here's a shot of the famous Hongik University.

Headed to Namdemum Market shortly after Hongdae. Supposedly one of the biggest markets in Seoul but it was quite boring. The clothes sold there were mainly catered to ahjumas as well. It's worth a visit to busk in the busy atmosphere and eat some street food.

Stopped by a small shop for our dinner and I really liked the side dishes here. Well, except for the kimchi cause I hate kimchi.

Here's the street food I was talking about. They have like street zi-char stores right in the middle of the walkways and you could just sit down and eat.
