Korea Trip Oct 2014 Part 2 (KTX & Pann Guesthouse)

We arrived in Korea early in the morning and took the AREX to Seoul Station before buying KTX tickets to Daegu. The Airport Railway Express (AREX) cost us about 8000won which was pretty decent because it brought us on a non stop ride all the way from Incheon International Airport to Seoul Station where you can go everywhere else. Seats are pretty comfortable as well but the bad thing is the seats are not able to incline backwards so I didn't get a good sleep during the 43mins journey.

Fortunately for us, the automated ticketing machines in Seoul Station have the english option, so we managed to buy our KTX tickets to Daegu without a fuss. But the tickets that came were in Korean so we had no idea what they meant and we just tried our luck.

Apparently the 1010 in the tickets meant the date and month, 16 was the cabin number and 3A was the seat number. If you notice the small 127 in the middle of the ticket, that was the train number that we're supposed to board.

So you'll have to match the train number against the big screen they have to find out which track you're supposed to head to. For our case it's track number 10.

Didn't take much pictures of the KTX train because I was too exhausted after travelling for more than 12 hours and I fell asleep straightaway only.

TIP: Buy your return KTX tickets when you reach another city in Korea because if you're only looking to buy on the date you return, chances are the tickets will be sold out and because of that, we had a really bad experience. Read about our return KTX ride from Daegu to Seoul here.

We stayed in Pann Guesthouse for our entire stay in Daegu. Pann Guesthouse is situated really the city area and its really convenient for us.

Basically we sleep on ondol heated floors with several matteress. The entire room is really small but cosy. Afterall it's just for the experience.

They have a hidden underground kitchen which was pretty cool but we didn't utilize it at all cause we wanted to save our stomachs for the authentic Korean foods.

Besides having accommodation, Pann Guesthouse also has a bar right next to it that serves pretty good food.

The bar also has some live jazz band playing on Fridays and Saturdays so if you're feeling bored you can actually head out of your room and walk over to the bar.

Here's the Margarita pizza that we ordered. The serving size was enormous especially when there were only me and Petrine to finish this entire pizza.

Here's some directions to head to Pann Guesthouse should you decide to stay there. Starting from Jongangno Station, head to the underground shopping mall and head up the stairs on exit 1 of Daehyun Primall (previously known as Jungang Underground Shopping Centre) Walk straight until you see ediya coffee and make a right turn. Continue walking straight until you reach a junction where you'll see Daegu Modern History Museum and also Daegu Jungbu Police Station.

Cross the road over to the police station and turn left. Continue walking and you'll see an elementary school and a fire station. Pann Guesthouse is situated in the alley right next to the fire station.

TIP: If you are taking a cab, be sure to show the driver the names of the landmarks in Korean because drivers in Daegu are not exactly good with road names.
  • Chongro Fire Station 종로소방서
  • Daegu Chongro Elementary School 대구종로초등학교
